1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The title of the film

The title of our film is revealed half way through the film opening. The style of font was 'handwriting' as we wanted to portray a child like script. This would add to the atmosphere of the film, which is stiffing and creates tension. As a group we decided to put an effect on the title, in order to keep in theme of the genre 'horror'. This is fairly common to see this style of titles in horror connected with death and insanity. For example, insidicous. This has the 'flick' effect which is shown in black and white. It is flashed in the direction of the audience, to add to the jump factor. In contrast to this 'Orphan'has still titles black writing on a white background. I think this is still effective but doesn't capture the audience in the atmospheric mood. Therefore, this genre of film had two different styles of showing the film title on screen.
Setting/Location.
The reason why we choose an industrial barn is because it gives off an abandoned cliche atmosphere. In a large open space and machinery, creates a sense of coldness. Old barns are fairly popular in films to hold victims hostage in a act of murder. The outside space also builds up the tension towards the barn, as the path is dusty and hard which would emphasis footsteps leading up to what is inside, this is left in question to the audience.
Costumes and Props.
Every film has costumes and props, therefore this is a typical media convention. In our frame which is situated in the barn, there are four girls tided up to a chair with a rage in their mouths, giving the impression they are held hostage. All of the costumes and props used in the film, allow the atmosphere to emphasis the theme of horror.
Camerawork and Editing.
The camerawork in our group was shared out between us all, so we could all learn from this experience. We only used a range of shots, not zooms etc, because we wanted to keep out shots as simple as possible, and not to confuse the viewer. Therefore this shows the camerawork and editing stages.
Title font and Style.
The title for our film opening is 'Strangers Calling' the style is a younger writing.
The font used was 'jonhands' which is used in all of the titles, effects were also added - 'flicker'.
Story and how the opening sets it up.
The story is based on a young girl who is possessed and takes hostage four others girls who she kills. The opening is set by a 999 call and a conversation between an unknown number and service, the phone cuts and a flash up of the girl is shown.
Genre and How the Opening Suggests it.
The genre of our film is horror. In the opening it is clear that it shows elements of being this genre through, sound, lighting and atmosphere built up around the characters.
Special FX.
We didn't use any special fx. As its not very common. Special FX is like Star Wars and green screen etc - which is very common in sci-fi/ action films, not 'horror' etc.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

As a group we all did are own research into different social groups and decided apon the one which fitted our genre best. I personal felt the girl from the 'Orphan' represented the social group in such way, that she is a young orphan, who is dressed in over sized clothes, pale white face (no colour to her skin) this suggests there's no life in her and is abnormal to humans. Therefore, portraying a doll like figure which links to childhood mememories of life size dolls which are seen as a spooky era. The girl is shown as a black and white figure, that is a flash back to a picture of her at a younger age.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A production company creates ideas and motion pictures, tv programmes, and adverts etc - they may also find funding for the products they produce.

A distributor is someone reliable who would get the film out there and support it fully. Paramount Pictures would be the most reliable - they've been going for years and have already got films being produced for 2013.   Paramount Pictures 'The Devil inside'.

The money could come from the National Lottery - Uk Film Council. They have funded some of the films which have been a huge influence for our own film opening.

The production companies are written in the running credits throughout the film opening. The three main actors are written on objects which relate to the genre. The rest of the main cast is revealed on the left hand side of the frame. Costume design to Original Music is also written on the left hand side in order to keep a quality to the piece.  Producer and Director written in the top right hand corner which is played over the top of the  film, to keep it continuous.

Our film influences are Insidicous, Orphan and The devil inside.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for our media product, would be suitable for teenagers. As they are of a age between 13-19 years old, which is ideal for are film as it is rated as a 15. This is because the contents of the film, doesn't contain bad language or violence, but it does show some disturbing scenes.
The group of teenagers to the left, are a normal 'cool' trendy crowd of people who seem to keep up with fashion. As a result they will want to see the lastest films on the big screens, and are more willing to go watch a film in the cinema as it is something to do on a day out.

The girl to the right, is a stereotypical 'emo'. This type of style tends to wear mainly black clothes, large footwear, dyed hair and dark makeup.
This type of person, is mysterious which suggests the genre of our film would fit their personality well.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

The stereotypes of horror as a genre in films, include an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear. Many modern day films sshow these elements, such as; The Devil inside, Incidious and Orphan. They also contain, possession and devils.

The use of posters and viral marketing was used to promote the film in places which attract numbers of people. If you are able to create an awareness of your product on a social networking site, it can become rapidly advertised as long as people are interested in the subject and that the target audience fits the social networking. The use of different elements enabled a clear idea of what was happening, as well as it all keeping within the stereotypes of the genre, therefore could sell much quicker. The type of music had to be contemporary to fit the target audience but also, had to represent the horror.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learnt many new techniques and processes with different software to be able to produce my own film opening. Many of the software which i used throughout my project are listed below.

1- Photoshop
We used this programme to edit still photos. e.g Rope, chains and many other machinery objects
2- Google
We found images and sites from this,'Youtube' was a main site which we found horror clips from successful films. This is how we gained our research and inspiration.
3- itunes
We imported music via this.
4- Flickr
We uploaded our work/timelines etc from this.
5- Vimeo
Our final/rough cuts, animatics and idents were uploaded to this.
8- Soundcloud
We uploaded our music to this - with garage band, edited our own soundtrack which would be the final sound in out opening film.
9- Blogger
Where all our work/ planning is was recorded.
10- Garage band
To help edit the soundtrack and for a tutorial as well.
